Changing the network you connect through

The network is the variable people reach for first when an Awazon address will not open, and it is the one where the gap between what a change feels like and what it does is widest. Two of these five records are worth the effort. One is worth it only under a condition you can state out loud. Two are not.

IWhat the network layer actually decides

Your connection decides three things and no more. Whether you can reach the Tor network at all, which relays your client is able to use once it gets there, and what your internet provider or the owner of the wifi can see about the fact that you connected. That is the entire scope. It does not decide which onion address you open, whether that address is genuine, or what the market records about your session.

Almost every network change people make is aimed, without them saying so, at one of the things in that second list. That is why the verdicts below look harsh. The change is usually real, the target is usually wrong.

01Rebuild the circuit. If the Awazon address opens, stop. Nothing else in this group was your problem.

COMMON ERROR

Changing the network is often done as a response to an address that will not load. In most cases the address was fine and the path was not. That is record N1, and it is the cheapest fix on this entire site.
