T1Awazon Market // record T1
T1 // Evening peak to a quiet hour
A sensible sounding habit with nothing behind it. Worth documenting because it is a common belief and because the reasoning behind it is instructive.
Awazon Market // onion addresses
The three strings below open the same market. The same account, the same balance, the same open orders sit behind each one. Copy a string, paste it into Tor Browser, and read the last six characters in the address bar before you type a password.

NOTHING HERE IS RANKED. THE ORDER IS THE ORDER THEY WERE WRITTEN IN.
IWhy speed does not follow the clock
Your circuit is three relays chosen from thousands spread across every timezone. Global load has some daily shape, but the variation between two relays picked at random dwarfs it. In practice a circuit built at four in the morning can be slower than one built at nine in the evening, and rebuilding is a far better lever than waiting. That is record N1.
IIWhy observation does not follow the clock either
A connection is logged the same way at any hour. Nobody watching a line is more attentive at one time than another, because the watching is not done by a person. Where timing does matter is in patterns rather than moments: an account only ever active in one narrow window describes a schedule, and that is a real signal. It is a reason to be irregular, not a reason to be nocturnal, and a rigidly kept quiet hour is a pattern too.
IIIThe indirect cost
Deliberately using a market at three in the morning means using it tired. Every check on this site is a small act of attention, and the tail check in record A2 is the first thing that goes when attention is short. A substitution that buys nothing and slightly degrades the operator is not neutral.
IVWhat people usually mean by it
Almost always the goal is being unobserved by somebody in the house rather than by anything technical. That is a real problem and it has a real answer, but the answer is about the room and the screen, not about the network. Naming it correctly leads to better decisions than filing it under security.
The network does not know what time it is. Rebuild the circuit instead of waiting for a quiet hour.
