IWho the signal is for

Age and feedback exist so that strangers can decide whether to deal with each other. A vendor reading a buyer's history is doing the same thing a buyer does when reading a vendor's. It is a market mechanism and it works, in that direction.

What it does not do is protect the account holder. Nothing about the age of an account makes a password stronger, an address more genuine, or a transfer reversible. The record simply gets longer.

IIThe direction people get backwards

An established account contains months of messages, shipping details, disputes and order history in a single place. If that account is compromised, or the platform is taken, the amount of material is proportional to the age. The new account is the one with almost nothing in it.

This is why the verdict is what it is. Age has value, but the value accrues to the transaction rather than to you, and the cost accrues to you.

IIIWhat actually reduces the pile

Encrypt what you can, so that the history contains less that is readable. That is record I3.
Do not restate what the market already has. Repeating a shipping address in plain text in every message multiplies one exposure into twenty.
Keep the balance small, so that the account is not also a wallet. That is record M3.
Separate genuinely distinct activity into genuinely separate accounts, if and only if you can meet the conditions in record I4.

IVThe buying an account variant

Occasionally people buy an aged account to skip the wait. That hands your session to somebody who knows the credentials, knows the recovery path, and chose to sell rather than to use it. It is a substitution with no upside at all, and it does not appear in the index because it is not a variation on the baseline, it is a different transaction with a stranger.

Age tells a vendor something about you. It tells an attacker how much is in the file.
